• Social Emotional Well-Being

We recognize that the social emotional well-being of our students and staff during these challenging times is critically important. The school has made available resources and referrals to address mental health, behavioral, and emotional needs of students, faculty, and staff when school reopens for in-person instructions. The school has done this by:

    CASEL:

Partnering with educators nationwide as they are preparing to welcome students and adults back to school to reunite, renew, and thrive. Both students, faculty and staff have been impacted by school closures, the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic crisis, and racial inequities exacerbated by the pandemic and amplified by the nationwide mobilization for racial justice. To aid in this transition, Mater Christi School is collaborating with CASEL to illuminate a way forward, centered on relationships and built on the existing strengths of a school community.

Counseling & Social Work Program provided by Catapult Learning:
Our school has a Counseling & Social Work Program provided by Catapult Learning. School counseling and social work services will be provided to support students, teachers, parents, and administration. The goal of the program is to educate the whole child-mind, body, and spirit. Parent and Teacher workshops will become a vital part of the program his coming school year!

    Child Study Team:
Our school has a Child Study Team that identifies and assists students with academic, social, and/or emotional needs. This program has been reviewed and updated to meet current needs of students during this COVID-19 pandemic.

    Parent Communication:
Faculty will be communicating throughout the year with families providing social, emotional support and resources. Faculty parent teacher communication will include strategies that will meet student social and emotional needs.

    Students:

Time for students to adapt and express their needs will be built into daily lessons. Prayer time will be provided throughout the day including meditation and centering exercises.  Each Friday afternoon will provide students with engaging learning exercises, walks and free time to relieve the stress and pressures of learning in person and/or remotely.

    Professional Development:

Faculty and staff will be given professional development opportunities to assist them in supporting students during and after the ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency, as well as provide support for developing coping and resilience skills for students, faculty, and staff.

    Faculty/Staff Communication:

Faculty and staff at Mater Christi have met weekly via Zoom Pro all summer and will continue to do so throughout the school year.  During these meetings, plans in progress have been discussed and input is taken from all the faculty and staff. Time is also spent in small group discussions. Informal gatherings have been and will continue to also be offered via Zoom Pro to provide time for faculty and staff to interact on a more personal level.

Whether in person or remotely all these programs and support will continue.
